FAQS
Speaking of steel...
You're probably thinking it's heavy, aren't you? Not today's steel.Air-hardening steels represent a major advance in steel technology. Introduced in the mid-1990's, these alloys first served the Aerospace industry for applications where composites, aluminum or titanium simply weren't strong or tough enough, like F-16 landing gear and other critical applications. Air-hardening steels are the key to crash resistant automobile design. Heat treating doubles the strength of our tubes, whose metallurgy works with both TIG-welding and lug brazing. Waterford pioneered these steels in the bicycle industry, having developed custom tube designs into a wide ranging palette from which to build nearly any kind of bicycle frames. We've worked with Waterford to create tube sets specifically designed for each of our applications, whether it's the feather light Fast Woman or the versatile Valkyrie.
What's up with the wheel sizes? I thought all your bikes have small front wheels.
On the two smallest Isis Pro and Isis Sport, we use a 24" front wheel/700c rear wheel on the two smallest sizes. Please watch the bike design videos to learn more (click on the Design Videos link at the top of this page). The larger sizes use 650c and 700c wheels.
Fast Woman is designed for road racing and riders who like a more aggressive position (translation: longer top tubes), so it uses either 650c/650c or 700c/700c wheels.
Valkyrie was originally designed as a cyclocross bike. We've departed from the norm (nothing new about that) by using 26" (the mountain bike size --559) wheels on the smaller sizes. 26" gives us the ability to use a variety of tires -- from cyclocross to road style. The largest size uses 700c wheels. After we designed this bike, I realized it could be used for touring as well as commuting with a change in components.
I wish you had more dealers.
So do we! We're a small company, so it's difficult for us to compete with the Big Guys. Most dealers are committed to specific bicycle lines, so they don't have the ability to take on a small line like ours unless loads of their customers demand it. But the dealers we do have understand the proper bike fit and appreciate the years of work we've put into designing bicycles for women.
